Who are you Watching?

Who are you watching?

Since we were children we always looked up to our parents, guardians, siblings and people who brought us up for guidance and learning. We observed everything they did, watched their every step and that way we learnt and acquired skills.
At every stage in life there are always people ahead of us that we watch, clap for, celebrate, rely on for advice, learn from and we trust them. And yes, we also watch them and criticize , scoff at and laugh at them. Most people know so much about others than themselves. They can spend a whole day passionately arguing, debating and discussing politics, money, what should be done and what what should not be done. Discussing everything except themselves. Yet if you ask someone a simple question like:-
⭐Who are you?
⭐Tell us about yourself!
⭐What are you doing with your life?
⭐What do you really want in life?
⭐What matters to you most right now?
⭐Where do you see yourself in the next three , five, ten years ?
They will stammer to respond or mumble something for less than a minute and go quiet.
It is good to watch and learn from other people but in your TV Channel of life, make yourself the most watched person by yourself! Make yourself your channel of choice! Watch your thoughts, your speech, your plans and your actions, your associations. Invest more time studying yourself, reviewing your life.
⭐Are there any strengths that you can maximize on, or weaknesses you need to work on?
⭐Are there mistakes you have had in the past that you can learn from? Successes you have had that you can maximize on?
Are you tired of always watching and clapping for other people but never being clapped for? The world watches and claps for those who watch and clap for themselves first! You are the most important person in your life! Watch yourself, you will be watched!

Fate or choice?

How we turn out in life, is it because we are programmed as such or is it because we made certain choices.

Fact is both fate and choice play a role in how we turn out in life and however you look at it you are right! There is a reason as to why our lives are the way they are and why you are in the circumstance, position or place that you are in! It did not just happen, something caused your circumstance. How you see and define it will determine how happy, charmed and fulfilling your life will be or how boring, mediocre and unfulfilled it will turn out! This then automatically means that there is a choice to make for the kind of life that you want to live! You cannot have a fate mentality, and live the life that you want!

When we were young, our parents bought school uniforms for us and took us to school to learn, get education and be successful in life. To many people, what happened one fateful morning, ended up being a routine and a life to be lived, for the next sixteen years of their lives! This has in turn shaped their lives, or affected their lives forever. They did not have any say or control on whether to go to school or not. It was not a choice for them but fate. Unfortunately for many people even after getting all the education that they can they still do not clinch the successful life that was promised when they started going to school. They are in constant search f
or an elusive thing; success! Others went through the same fateful experience and their lives are thriving, happy and successful!  For others, as fate would have it, did not go to school. Circumstances did not allow them the privilege of education yet today their lives are thriving and successful.  This is just one scenario that I have projected from life; but what makes the difference between these groups of people?
It is a small five-lettered word, but in it has power to transform, create and build a life of success and fulfillment; choice!

Life, is a choice! No matter how harsh, unbearable, and unpleasant it may seem! Situations may occur in our lives that we have no control over, thus they tend to suppress, limit and dictate our well-being! We call them fate!  It is easy to succumb to the situation and drown in self-pity and accept that this is how things must always be and that the graph is drawn to attract sympathy.  Whether it is a loss of a loved one, loss of a job, being caught up in traffic. You realize that a situation has been chosen for you and most of the times it is usually a limiting situation but you have a choice over it whether to define it, or let it define you! The issue is not the fateful, unpleasant situation, the issue is how you respond to it! The reason why people complain and grumble is because they are in a situation that has been enforced to them and they do not have control over it, or so they think! This is what happens when a fateful experience occurs to us, we can stay there and complain all day and night trying to look for sympathy and help. Someone said that when you complain no one listens but when you compliment, the world listens!

For the world to listen to you, you must make a choice to defy fate or any limiting factors. It is a choice you make to not let the situation control you and be responsible for your own happiness. That is how you get control over it! There is a difference between people and people, and the difference is choice! In September 12, 1962, President John F. Kennedy made a speech that defined, abbreviated and distinguished his Presidency among many US and world Presidents before and after him to date! At that time, America had gone through two economic recessions in less than a decade, suffered heavily after the Second World War, and Russia had already landed a man on space therefore challenging their status as the super power! He knew he had to give America a reason to hope and be proud again of their sovereignty. Addressing a large congregation in Rice Stadium in Houston, he said “We choose to go to the moon!” They had not even created a lunar module to go and explore the moon but to cut the story short in just seven years from the time he delivered his speech, America landed a man on the moon and returned him safely on earth, advancing technology, and space science to new levels that have not been beaten to date!

It is a choice that he made to go to the moon amidst all the limiting factors that surrounded America. Needless to say his choice has been celebrated world over and spoken of with pride and used to inspire many who aspire to go to great heights and achieve the impossible and become inspirations! This is the power of choice!

It is Wayne Dyer who said that our lives are a sum total of the choices we have made! Today you have a choice of being a prisoner of fate or being a master of your destiny and be celebrated the world over, take your pick! That, right there is called choice! Indeed, how you turn up in life is a choice!

What makes my world go round!!

Love

I am about love, yea I like to do everything out of love and it has not been easy to turn duty and responsibilities to love but upon discovering my purpose, I have come to only engage in doing what I love rather than loving what I do. Love fuels the passion, the drive, the energy to move and launch into my goals and dreams! Every single thing, living and non-livin
g loves to be loved and just by a look at something, you will know if that thing is loved or not. It is the greatest commandment given to mankind and the greatest weapon in all universe. Love does not fight, it conquers! Yea, it conquers my heart, many a times!!

Dreams

Let me start from there, dreams! Boy don't I have dreams!! I even dream during the day! :) Someone told me a dream is not what you see when you sleep but what keeps you awake at night! #living testimony. I guess I am also a dream. I usually think my paps and ma dreamed of me and when I showed up I was a dream come true for parenthood for them. I know I know! I started dreaming from a very tender age. I wanted to be an astronaut, an astronomer and a meteorologist thanks to paps for teaching me the science of stars and constellations. He opened my understanding of those heavenly luminaries and opened my curiosity of them to date. Well, I didn't form the famous astronaut trio of the Apollo 11 Lunar mission but believe you me I have been to the moon, and no I didn't come back. I went on to Mars, Neptune, Andromeda, which is this other one, I have covered our galaxy all of it and all in my dreams. In fact, the first manned interstellar mission I don’t care, I will be on board :) Yeaa, that's how crazy my dreams are they are simply out of this world! Another person said 'move the mind, and the body will follow'. I'm moving my mind on a vehicle called dreams! How o'bout you!

Space

I looove space don't you! Everyone in this world is fighting and working very hard or smart to rule, identify with or own space. And no, I am not talking about buying some land popularly known in my mother tongue as mugunda but then again what's wrong with that? Why should I be different? Save for the fact that I am writing this piece out of love and fun don't you think I also want to announce my debut in the world of writing and get some space there? If I go on I will also say that I am a space. Space is used for display. I can very well display who I am on a space called my body. My heart is a space, it can display emotions, love, hate, name them. My mind is a space, it can harbor and display thoughts.  One of the major things that animals seek desperately and guard jealously is territory in other words, space. You see the whole cosmos is simply space and dust. Take your pick!

Song

Tararara…..yup! Don’t I love songs? Seriously I sing everywhere, there is always a song in my heart. I have in several occasions been awakened by people telling me…wow what a sweet song you are singing, or ….you really love to sing J , and at that moment it occurs to me that I was singing or well, humming. The songs are not just in my conscious they are in my subconscious.  Thing is, songs occupy a place in our hearts that not even words do and that is why it is easier to remember words in a tune-which is a song, than if they were just words. How does the body function anyway? To move or make an action, the body uses a number of members both internal and external and the  harmony, the rhythm, the order are in tune with the communication from the brain; why does that sound like a song to me! Maybe because I am a song freak; precisely my message!

When you go to Sparta!

So here’s an oldie…..when you go to Sparta, do what Spartans do! But well many people like to go to Rome to do what Romans do not that I have a problem with them. I have always admired and appreciated other people’s cultures, beliefs and diversities. There is something to pick up from the weirdest of them and a good way to relate with the people. Also, no one will know that you are a visitor there so no curious concerns from Spartans. However, this does not mean that we become someone else because we are somewhere else. There are certain things that do not change or should not be changed by abroad.

I heard a story of an army soldier who went through a ruthless training from such a ruthless instructor. The training would become very hard and for one to make it they had to be in really good books with the instructors. So one time this soldier was sent to buy a cigar by one of the instructors and as you would have it what’s wrong with that, you are serving your instructor and actually it’s a favor for him to look your way and send you. He could return that favor with ‘passing you’; you are at his mercy you know! Luckily for this soldier, he was not going to disrespect his dignity by buying the cigar to show loyalty to the instructor. He boldly told him …I am saved sir, thus I will not buy you the cigar….Right! The instructor was taken aback but the soldier did not even blink. In short that is how he earned respect from the instructors for the remaining time of the training. It is normal, obvious   and required for a soldier to take and execute orders from his betters without questioning but this soldier stood firm by his principles.

That is exactly what I am driving at thanks to the soldier. Having principles or being yourself is an honorable thing and surprisingly everyone have their own principles. These are usually imparted to us either by religion, the society we live in or the environment that we grow up in. They are usually geared towards peace, respect, sympathy, love and mostly fear of God. They are not well tested or developed though, until we leave the auspices of that environment that protected, honored and rewarded those values. When a child is growing up, it is usually protected by the parents, the church, the school and the society. Things however change for the good or for worse, when this child goes to college away from the parents, and the environment that protected and watched over them, where they are treated as adults and they have freedom to interact and relate with whoever they like. This is where their true colors are revealed. The principles they have carried through dictate who they interact with, where they go, how they do anything and even what they get from ‘abroad’.

While exposure and appreciating other people’s views and perspectives about life is good and healthy, it is wise to do it while still not hurting or sidelining your own values. If something does not compliment, educate, promote or establish your good values in Sparta, say no to it and hold your dignity. You may be loved or hated but you will earn respect and you will not have to walk in shame. That, right there, is a life well lived! No matter how much the Apostles in Antioch tried to live and appear like the Antiochas, their values and way of life betrayed them anyway as they were Christ-like. They were thus called Christians for the first time and they influenced and impacted Antioch with Christ!

I am always encouraged by the story of Lot, living in Sodom and Gomorrah among evil, corrupt and treacherous men. Immorality had reached the high heavens and corruption was the way of life. The fear of God was a vocabulary and holiness was only spoken of in whispers!  Surely Lot did not have to be holy and pious before God in those cities, after all that is what everybody else did! But his fear for God, his value system, his understanding of life could not allow him to become a Sodomite, lose his dignity and sin against his God! His environment did not change him it strengthened his values!

I usually respect people who are appointed to certain offices and they resign citing they do not want to be part of corruption cartels. They sacrifice high flying jobs and a good standing in the society to save that which cannot be bought by money; dignity!

What is your dignity? And how do you protect it? How easily can it be twisted? The world is in dire need of men and women of principle! Can the world count on you?
