Stand up and Stand out!!

‘Kenya is a hotbed of vibrant culture’ that was our president setting the tone for the recently completed Global Entrepreneurship Summit in Nairobi; and a tone he did set!  My long lost cousin Obama and the President of the United States couldn't say it better when he said....Kenya is ready...Kenya is leading the way....Omera!  Thank you cousin!  Did you watch the 2015 IIAF Championships in Beijing,? Cheers! I did.

That is where we got the best definition of hotbed. We were not just winning medals, we were winning GOLD.  Before you finish celebrating one, another gold comes kicking.  Before you even think of betting for the betters in the house, the gold has already come. 😀  #proudtobekenyan!

You see in any race or field event that there was, there were three winners. The first won gold, the second silver, the third bronze and they all got standing ovations, media advantage, of course fat bank accounts and most all medals. They were all shown to the world, they are all known to the world. But, of the three, there's one that stood out GOLD! I want the standing out!

You see even if they all got standing ovations, the honor in any race or event went to the GOLD bearing champ. It is their National Anthem that was played. And everyone stopped in silence to escort the Gold-bearer  as he carried the race home with him. Could they have been escorting him? My answer is, Yes they were.

One of the most persistent questions in company's boardrooms and the boardrooms in the mind of any person who wants to succeed in life is 'how do I stand out? how do I get an edge? So trying to answer this question some people work so hard in their jobs waking up early going home late, others further their education, they are always in school to find that edge which is very good am in school too.

With a population of over 7.3 billion people in the world and all doing something to live. All praying unto one God in their different faiths what would make one person stand out of all of them.  What makes some to be news makers and some to be news watchers?

Yes there’s something called God’s favor and personally, I have witnessed it in my life. That moment when something comes your way not because of what you have done or how well you deserved it but because there is a God in heaven.  Now if God can actually give you favor for something you didn’t do and something you didn’t even deserve, how much more will he give you his favor for something you want to do, for a dream you want to build, for a vision you want to realize? We all can’t run well on the track and stand out like Usain Bolt or David Rudisha,  we all cannot  play soccer so well and stand out like Christiano Ronaldo but life has many tracks enough for the 7.3 billion people on earth to play and stand out !

Mahatma Gandhi once said, ‘it’s easy to stand in the crowd, but it takes courage to stand alone and to stand out’. It is courage that made Julius Yego explore other areas to win Gold in World Championships as opposed to the traditional races where Kenya has always been known.  As all the athletes jetted in from Beijing and they were being lauded and celebrated, as they are being invited for interviews and talk shows,  as all the seven gold medals are being presented and rewarded, there is one gold that is different, one that stands out .  One that lingers more in our minds  and that is Julius  Yego’s  Javelin Gold.

Napoleon Hill once said that if you can't do great things, do small things in a great way. There is a world where only you will conquer there is a track where only you can run and stand out and we are waiting at the finish to crown and celebrate you!!

Perhaps you need some change!

Ever met with an old  jumpy, screamy classmate especially from your high school days in the streets,  and wished for the earth to  swallow you probably save you from the agony? Whuuuh! Long sentence! But yea I have.  It was the longest  evening I ever had.

So me av left jobo vizuri am walking in the streets without a  problem with anyone except I get disturbed by a commotion on Taifa Road somebody decided to park his car without reading city council's commandments and is being towed away so me am like 'mmmhhh guy you gotta problem' apart from that am all good  humming into one of my favorite hymns .....tis so sweet to trust in Jesus.... lifes actually good until someone decides screaming my name in town is better than not screaming. So me I look up 'Sarah Munyiiiiii' she goes, that's the second time by the way. Eh maze unakaa firi  unadunga works nini!!! Kubanjukaaaa. At this point agony started raining hard on me. First of all that kind of sheng for a chicka aih I refuse it in my life. Secondly, Kubanjukaa? Really? Okay I loved dancing 💃in high school I still do but I call it salsa, tango yea like that. So anyways am also happy to meet her after 11years since leaving high school. So how've you been, what do you do now,I ask. She goes like, Eh maze niko poa ma-jamse' okay that's like saying jam session I don't know tribeka, there's anaa hot joint for clubbing at Thika Road. At this point I  black out like totally. I've never seen the inside of a club in town I know about churches. Then she notices am not excited she's like acha kuboeka she's actually giving me a plan for the evening.

Am thinking how do people live like that, okay in high school we were all jumpy and careless but mostly that was to belong to a 'strata' not who we really were I  moved on I left that person in high school. I got serious in life am more responsible, am more careful, I don't just live for the moment I think ahead, I plan ahead. I have learnt that choices have consequences and that I have to live with the decisions I make. I moved on to maturity I CHANGED or I GREW UP!

There are things I wish I did differently 11years ago in high school I would be very far in life socially, financially, emotionally name it. I found a very interesting quote by C.S. Lewis that stopped me...Isn't it funny how day by day nothing  changes but when you look back, everything is different'? To what degree have you actually controlled the course your life has taken?

This is the reality check. If you want to have something you've never had you have to do something you've never done. You have to CHANGE your way of doing things. You have to change your day's program if you want to remember what you do Today 11 years from now. And if you don't, you will probably look back 11 years ago and find out that everything is different and you can only wish like me that you had done things differently. Take charge now!

Decisions are being made right now. The question is:Are you making them for yourself or are you letting others make them for you?
